14 days ago my wifes mum came to our house to pick up squeaky and take him to the summer house for mid summer.
we were still expecting, Sofi was in week 41+1.
we had agreed that we would give our new arrivall one more night before joinging everyone for midsummer, so we had planned to leave the next morning - baby pending-
and somehow as I was playing with squeaky whilst everybody was fitting the car seat to mormors car I knew the next time I saw him everything would be different.
somewhere deep inside I was saying goodbye to my little baby boy.
2 am Sofi got up to pee, (she doesnt know this but i always wake up when she gets up)
2.30 am she cam back into the bedroom and said 'JO my water just broke'... and again somehow i just knew.
and then she says ' but you can go back to sleep'
yeah right like thats going to happen now!
So we lay awake in bed untill about 4 am - (as a side note in summer time in sweden it is broard daylight at 4 am,)
we get up, have some breakfast, skyped with my mum n dad in Australia, decided not to ring Sofi's folks as it was 4 am.
and so it would seem that that extra night was the night, and no#2 was well and truly on his way.
we went to the hospital at about 7am, they said go for a walk for a couple of hours, we went to mcdonalds and had breakfast, we went back, they said come back in 45 mins, we went to the cafe up stairs and had a coffee, we came back, they said OK lets book you in.
We were in the birthing ward for some time, I dont really know how long, Sofi and I were perfecting the 5 min power nap between contractions.
Then some time later we were moved to a birthing room. Sofi was hooked up to a whole bunch of machiens (to my disapointment none of them went PING!)
and then after many power naps a couple of examinations and much coffee, at about 3.40 am the nurnse came in and did an examination, Sofi was ready to get this little guy out and she said not yet you're ony 8 cm dialated. and then left the room.
About 12 mins later Sofi said to me in a very stern voice Jo push the fucking button, this baby is coming, and so I did, the midwife came, and sure enough the baby was coming.
She sent for the doctor who just stood in the background and watched. at some point came over to the bed put his hand on sofis shoulder and said kämpa på. (which means to keep fighting) and then stepped back to let the midwives and Sofi and me do our job.
Mid wife was amazing, directing Sofi all the way, letting her know excactly what she needed to do at which point, and witin in 2 push's at 04.01 midsummer day no#2 was born.
and I am speechless.
Sofi did this whole marathon on only a couple of paracetamol tablets and gas. What a Superwoman!
and little no#2 is just perfect.
When squeaky was born we were different peope in a different place and his arrival into this word was a dramatic, traumatic and emotional experience.
This birthing experience was something else.
I feel privelidged to have been in the fortunate position to support my wife through this birth.
It's just amazing. I still struggle to find words to describe this experience and I hope that one day I will. But for now all you are going to get out of me is-
It's fucking amazing, and all mothers deserve a fucking medal.!!!
I think everybody should watch this just once (although I appreciate it in an increadibly intimate experience,) I think it would humble many peope to watch how they came into the world.
To understand the experience their mother went though just to bring them into this world
to give them life.
I know I am certainly humbled by this experience.
so 12 days ago we left the hospital with no#2 and came home.
Squeaky had been with mormor and morfar for 3 nights.
and we were understandably concerned about their first meetiing.
We did manage a skype chat whilst we were in the hospital, and Squeaky tried to give his new little brother his dummy through the screen when he cried. What a heart melting experience that was, but stay tuned theres more.
when we got home mormor had given squeaky a little soft bunny to give to his brother, this is without a doubt the cutest thng i have ever seen in my entire life, i burst into tears, what an emotional tiime
Squeaky loves his little brother already,
and Sofi is a fucking champion, you wouldnt even know she had given birth.
and no#2.
he is strong healthy and from what I can understand somewhat happy-
and me¨
feeling very blessed right now
